SOMA Kindness is a grassroots effort brought to you by the South Mountain YMCA.
Since 2020, over 450 families have received holiday meals, gift bags, groceries, and random acts of kindness delivered by dozens of volunteers and supported by hundreds more.
Our goal is to encourage volunteering by providing a free platform to promote and receive opportunities in South Orange, Maplewood (SOMA) and surrounding areas.
Launched as a pilot project for ad hoc opportunities by the team at Marigold LifeWorks and led by Dr. Christel Hyden (Metro YMCAs of the Oranges Layperson of the Year 2021; South Mountain YMCA Volunteer of the Year 2022), the platform is now a volunteer hub for organizations and individuals in SOMA and surrounding areas.
